2026 Trips
June 24: The Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, NH
Nurturing Nationhood: Artistic Constructions of America, 1790-1940
Gather a group of fellow AIL members and travel to The Hood Museum in Hanover, NH, for a special guided tour of Nurturing Nationhood: Artistic Constructions of America, 1790-1940. This exhibit works from the 18th through the 20th centuries, exploring how art has played a role in defining, nurturing, and maintaining nationhood across what we now know as the United States. Offered exclusively for AIL, this docent-led tour will last one hour, concluding at 11:00 AM.
Registration for members opens on June 1.
June 3 & 4: The Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, VT
Stitched Into History: The Life and Legacy of Electra Havermeyer Webb
Every quilt has a story — and so does every museum! Join quilter and author Froncie Quinn for In the Time of Toile, an engaging presentation exploring the life and vision of Shelburne Museum founder, Electra Havermeyer Webb. This lecture provides a special preview of the Shelburne's toile and chintz collection of quilts and allows you to peer into the profusion of colors, patterns, styles, and history so evident during the early 19th century.
The following day, take a field trip to the Shelburne Museum to experience firsthand one of the largest art and history museums in New England. Enjoy a guided tour of the current exhibit, Varied and Alive: New and Rarely Seen Treasures from the Collection, which highlights selected pieces held by the museum, some not seen in decades. Learn why The Shelburne is considered ‘a foremost public resource for visual art and material culture.’
Join us! Reserve your spot and experience history, one stitch at a time. Field trip includes transportation, museum admission, and guided tour. Option to purchase lunch on-site.
This trip is preceded by a presentation by AIL Study Leader Fronice Quinn on Wednesday, June 3.
